From https://openai.com/our-structure/

For comparison, their external definition of AGI is “a highly autonomous system that outperforms humans at most economically valuable work”.

This definition is at least covering a lot more of what AGI should be discussing.

Not some arbitrary amount of profitability. I surely hope both Gizmodo and The Information are incorrect in this article.

tl;dr

OpenAI and Microsoft define AGI as AI software that can generate at least $100 billion in profits.

    > AI software that can generate at least $100 billion in profits.

That's not an AGI, it's an AI unicorn.

  • darepublic 10 months ago

I wonder if this can just mean whenever open ai generates 100 billion in revenue after expenses, or whether the ai system has to create something on its own or otherwise manage to generate that profit based on its own "ingenuity". Former is more likely but latter more in line with the agi spirit

It might even be specific to Microsoft: once the make back the money they invested plus 100B, they are cut off. Maybe the original Intercept article has a better explanation, but it’s behind paywall.

In any case, I wouldn’t count on the deal remaining unaltered by the time they reach that, if they do.

To others like me who don't know what this represents, $100B profit is approximately Apple.

Or to put it another way, it's extracting $300 out of every single person in the US.

How would this work if said AGI “outperforms humans at most economically valuable work”?
