When I worked at a defense contractor, we were told to remove our badges when leaving the office, lest they be seen (and somehow copied) by spies hanging out at nearby restaurants. I would have thought any federal agency concerned about security would have the same policy.
Perhaps the policy was a little paranoid, but I also can't think of any reason to wear a badge beyond the area where it's required.

Too bad it took the Soviet Union to force us to do that. But what is happening now under Trump & conflict-of-interest Musk will certainly not get us anywhere fast.
Can you please not use HN primarily for political or ideological battle? We ban accounts that do that, regardless of their politics or ideology, because it destroys what the site is supposed to be for.
For one, that's not the criteria being used to lay people off. Most of it is politically motivated pork cutting with no basis in rational justification.
For two, if you fire someone for dereliction of duty, that doesn't make their duty go away. You have to eventually hire someone new to take the job.
