Despite my own misgivings about the current state of US government.
IN THEORY, I do think that the obvious social issues aside, the US's federal state setup would potentially allow for absorbing someplace like Canada fairly easily. The US is more top down than it has been in the past, but states still make a lot of decisions on their own and I do think that would allow absorbing someone else a little easier. In theory.
Just thinking about writing this makes me think about how messy this stuff is.
But like, is there some long-term goal that there is world peace? And in that long term goal of world peace, is there some kind of international governing body?
And yeah, I guess in theory I think what you say is true, in practice, part of what makes a culture a culture are the sort of “decided questions” and one may not want to join a government that tries to enforce a different set of “decided questions” or undecided certain questions.
I’m sure some of the messaging would be to “liberate Canadians from their oppressive national healthcare system”
I concur. It seems like the US would be more peaceful if the various regions could separate and enjoy their values independently without fear of the other side’s values being imposed upon them. Create a market and people can live where they choose based on their values. It seems (from a Canadian’s perspective) like 99% of the problems are due to one side imposing its values on the other side, with a wide gulf in values between them. It is very zero sum.

Not that they should.

Liberate Canada from Americans deciding for them what country they should be in.
The U.S. is already much too large - we can leave it at that.
